HC-074-200 is a microprocessor-based instrument for testing materials in the conductivity range of 0.005 to 0.8W/mK such as plastics, rubber, urethane, styrene form and rock wool in research and development and quality control. Its state of the art electronics developed specifically for thermal conductivity testing instruments ensure precision. The measurement procedure of the instruments is fully automated. The greatly reduced size and weight of HC-074-200 makes it extremely easy to operate. Because of its speed and ability to have up to 9 setpoints entered at once it is extremely labor efficient.

 



FEATURES

High sensitivity transducers
A revolutionary high output Thin Film Heat Flux Transducer and a type E thermocouple provide accurate readings of the sample's surface temperature and heat flux.

Advanced electronics
A 24 bit A/D converter and a digital signal processor provide 0.6µV resolution yielding temperature control and resolution of 0.01°C

Accurate thickness measurement
A sophisticated digital plate position control system with readout in all four corners of the specimen provides +/-0.025mm accuracy in thickness measurement.

Precise results
Extensive testing at various locations has shown that HC-074-200 have a repeatability of 0.2%, a reproducibility of 0.5%, and when the high accuracy calibration mode is used an absolute accuracy of better than 1%.

Time of tests
The powerful data acquisition system, the low thermal mass solid state cooling/heating plates and the multistage PID algorithm can be reached and controlled to 0.01°C in a few minutes. The dual transducers and advanced electronics provide results for 1" thick specimens accurate to within 1% of final steady state results in less than 10 minutes.

Calibration
Two modes are provided. One calibration uses the NIST 1450b standard. The other employs a special high accuracy NIST traceable calibration standard accurate to within 0.5%. Calibrations can also be performed by the user employing their own calibration samples. As many calibrations as desired can be stored on the PC and sent to the instrument at any time.

WinTherm Software
Increased flexibility is made available through the software used under Windows. All the test parameters can be setup and changed at any time during the test, with the ability to review data in a variety of formats including graphs. It also provides extensive automatic data storage on the hard disk.

Automatic Sample Feeder (Option)
The feeder is available on HC-074-200 with the ability to automatically load and test 21 1" samples. Each sample's results and data are stored on the PC.



STRUCTURE AND PRINCIPLE

The thermal conductivity of a specimen (Λ) is determined by the following the equation;

Where QU is the output of the upper heat flux transducer, QL is the output of the lower heat flux transducer, L is the thickness of the specimen and ΔT is the temperature difference between the surfaces of the specimen. The upper and lower surface temperature of both transducers are provided on the instrument LCD at the end of the test. In each component of the conductivity equation, heat flux, thickness of the specimen and temperature of specimen surfaces, the HC-074 provides extremely precise readings.
